Purchasing Study USA-HealthCare

1. Who is eligible to buy Study USA-HealthCare Insurance? Answer
  • International students studying in the U.S. who:
    • are under age 66, and
    • have a valid visa status in the U.S., and
    • are registered and engaged in academic activities at a U.S. school, college or university.
  • U.S. registered students studying outside the U.S. who are:
    • under age 66, and
    • registered with a U.S. school, college or university, and
    • engaged in academic activities abroad (excluding home country).
2. How will my proof of insurance be sent to me? Answer

If you buy or renew your coverage online, your receipt, Confirmation, Description of Coverage, and ID card will be instantly emailed to you.

3. I need coverage to begin as soon as possible. Is it possible for my Study USA-HealthCare policy to go into effect the day I enroll? Answer

No, however, your policy can go into effect as soon as one day after you enroll online.

4. Are a student's dependents eligible for coverage? Answer

Yes. Spouse and/or children (under age 18) of enrolled students can be enrolled for insurance with the student's initial enrollment, or within 31 days of birth, legal adoption, marriage or arrival in country of study. If your dependents are not eligible for Study USA-HealthCare, they can enroll in one of our other plans for people outside their home country.

5. My school requires an Insurance Compliance Form or a Waiver Form be completed as proof of my insurance. Can you complete this form for me? What should I do? Answer

First, purchase Study USA HeathCare Insurance. After your purchase (enrollment) is complete, simply fax your school's Compliance or Waiver Form to us at (610) 537-9851. We will complete it and fax it back to your school for you. Forms received by 12:00 noon Pacific Time will be faxed back to your school by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, the same day.

6. Can I buy Study USA-HealthCare if I am already studying outside my home country? Answer

Yes. You can enroll in Study USA-HealthCare regardless of how long you have been studying outside your home country, as long as you fulfill the eligibility requirements in Question 1 above.

Renewing Your Policy

7. Can I renew my coverage? Answer

Yes, as long as you fulfill the eligibility requirements in Question 1 above.

8. How do I renew my coverage? Answer

Before your existing Study USA-HealthCare coverage has expired, or within 30 days following your Expiration Date, renew your current coverage using our instant secure online renewal form. You will be sent an email reminder to do so, beginning 3 weeks prior to your coverage Expiration Date.

Those who originally enrolled by mail or fax and did not provide an email address, can renew online or by using a print form that will be mailed to you one month prior to your current coverage Expiration Date.

9. When I renew my coverage, can I add or remove coverage for eligible dependents? Answer

Yes, you can add coverage for eligible dependents (spouse and/or children) during your renewal.

Spouse and/or children (under age 18) of enrolled students can enroll for insurance with the student, or within 31 days of birth, legal adoption, marriage or arrival in country of study. If your dependents are not eligible for Study USA-HealthCare, you can enroll them in one of our other plans for people traveling outside their home country.

Coverage Clarification

10. Can I go to any doctor or hospital, or must I use my school's Student Health Center or a preferred provider from Study USA-HealthCare's network? Answer

For International Students Studying in the U.S.:

  1. If you choose to be seen at your Student Health Center when it is equipped to treat your condition, you will receive the in-network benefit and your deductible for such incidents will be waived.
  2. For other incidents, if you use a doctor or hospital in Study USA-HealthCare's large preferred provider network, First Health, you will pay a lower deductible and co-insurance than if you go outside the network.

For U.S. Registered Students Studying Outside the U.S.: Outside the U.S., Study USA-HealthCare does not have a Preferred Provider Network.

  1. You can choose to be seen at the Student Health Center or at another doctor or hospital and receive the in-network benefit.
  2. If you go to the Student Health Center when it is equipped to treat your condition, your deductible for such incidents will be waived.
  3. You can also use any doctor or hospital. The Emergency Assistance Company can help you locate a doctor or hospital in the country where you are studying.
11. Will my deductible be waived if my school has no Student Health Center? Answer

Yes, as long as medical services are received from a First Health Preferred Provider Network member.

12. Does Study USA-HealthCare cover Pre-Existing Conditions? Answer

Pre-Existing Conditions are defined by the policy as "an injury, illness or condition which was contracted or which first manifested itself, or for which a licensed physician was consulted; or for which treatment or medication was prescribed, within 6 months prior to the effective date of the Covered Person's coverage under this Program. Pre-Existing Conditions shall be excluded from coverage for a period of 6 months following the effective date of coverage under this program. A Covered Person must be continuously insured." 13. Does Study USA-HealthCare cover pregnancy? Answer

Yes, it covers the pregnancy of an insured student or enrolled spouse if the conception of pregnancy occurs after the effective date of coverage. It does not cover the pregnancy of a dependent child.

14. Will my Study USA-HealthCare policy cover me if I travel outside the U.S.? Answer

Yes, Study USA-HealthCare covers the Insured worldwide, except in their country of permanent residence, where they will only be covered up to $1,000 for illness and injuries incurred within the first 30 days of entering their country of permanent residence and as long as they fulfill the requirements in Question 1 above.

For International Students In The U.S.

15. Is a network provider located in my area? Answer

Most likely. For a complete listing of First Health Network participants please contact First Health at 888-685-7774 or visit www.myfirsthealth.com.

16. How will I receive care at In-Network level if there are no Network providers in my area? Answer

If there is no First Health provider qualified to provide the care needed within a 50 mile radius of your residence, you can choose to be treated outside the Network by a non-First Health provider. In this situation, benefits will be paid at in-network level.

17. After graduation, I plan to remain in the U.S. for practical training. Am I still eligible for coverage under Study USA-HealthCare? Answer

You can be insured up to 90 days after graduation. After that, you can enroll in an insurance plan for visitors to the U.S.

Policy Changes

18. After I submitted my Enrollment online, I realized I entered the wrong Effective Date. What should I do? Answer

Send any corrections to us in writing by email to: susa@travelinsure.com, or by fax or mail and we will confirm the changes. When sending correspondence, please include a daytime phone number and reference your Transaction Number.

If the correction results in an increase in premium, please submit your check or credit card payment by fax or mail. When sending credit card details, please include the credit card number, expiration date and a statement authorizing Travel Insurance Services to charge the additional amount.
